Hi, help required.
I have started to have difficulties with my DVD drive on the above notebook model.
It has become selective about whether it detects a disc or not.
I have recently tried to install commercial games software (not copies) and the drive cannot even recognise them. In fact, the drive does nothing.
I tried a CDR and it recognised it, although it did not autoplay.
I have tried all the troubleshooters etc. The device manager states the drive is 'working properly'.
I am well and truly stumped.................... any suggestions, or is the drive kaput?
Thanks
Roy:smileyconfused:
Hi Roy and welcome to the forum.
This does sound like a hardware problem and if your particular optical drive is the Matshita UJDA-750 then……:smileysad:
There a few options available but one is to try cleaning the laser lens with a propritory cleaner.
Thanks
Will give it a try
Roy
Hi
I tried cleaning the lens. The discs still didn't work.
However........ I have tried a brand new disc, no problem. It started straight away.
Put the older discs back in, nothing.
Cleaned the discs....... nothing.
Could there be something wrong with all 4 of the old discs, or is it more likely to be the drive?
Thanks
Roy

oh well.
Any idea how much for a new one?
Roy
Sorry, no idea - try eBay....
Hi Eod100,
I hope you got your drive sorted out, I read of someone else having a similar problem....
I was hoping you might be able to help me with a problem on my laptop (also a FR415B)... basically, I have only just started using this model (although I bought it two years ago), and have noticed the text/font appears blurry in bold in certain applications, e.g. Word and I Explorer... I am trying to find out if this is true on all models, and thus as good as it gets, or if there is something wrong with mine...
Is this the case on yours, can you help with this at all? You can email me at: sarahscott@zen8.freeserve.co.uk or reply here if you have any ideas.
Muchly appreciated, and hope you sort your drive out
Sarah
