SDHC in SD Reader

Hya all,
Can you help?
Is there a way of upgrading the Sony UMH-U HS-SD/MMC SD card reader on my VGC-RA304 Desktop PC to read SDHC?
Something like a driver update? Or is it a lost cause?

I think it is a lost cause - the hardware will not be able to handle it. Using a SDHC compatible device connected by USB cable seems the only reliable way on older hardware.

Some users have tried various downloads to try to get this to work on the newer Texas Instruments hardware but without success. Some newer Vaios do read SDHC and some don't - it seems hardware dependent.
