Problems upgrading memory

I've got a PCG-FX804 which originally came with 256MB ram. I then purchased an additional 256MB from the SonyStyle Shop (PCGE-MM256) and installed it as directed. As far as i can recall I never actually checked to see if the additional memory was regesitered by Windows or BIOS.

I recently had to reformat my harddrive and after doing so noticed that Windows and BIOS was only registering 256MB. I have tried each stick individually and both work however only in one of the slots (the one in which the original stick was located). Neither of them work in the second slot.

Everything on the computer is working fine and Windows is fully updated.

I found this on a different forum where the user had a problem with a PCV-RX360DS

Interesting note about your mainboard, it has two memory slots, but only two available memory banks. Memory chips come as single side or double side...and single bank or dual bank...if your chips are of the dual bank configuration, one of your chips can occupy both of the available banks...this effectively disables the second memory slot...use 2X256 single bank or 1X512 dual bank chip(s) to use the maximum memory.

This have any relevance to me?

Thanks in advance for any help, Matt

Sounds like the GRX issue, where the soldering goes bad.

Have a computer store solder it back on correctly.
