playing half life 2 problems

hello there......i am trying to play half life 2 on my new sony vgc-va1 desktop pc...however..when trying to play the game,it stutters,skips and freezes!!..I have lowered my resolutions and textures etc to their lowest settings but no improvement.The video card is the ati radeon x700 and i have installed direct x 9c.I am also having problems playing half life 2 episode 1,with the same problems!!...Please,can anyone help at all?

Hi,

I had the same problems m8 with HL2 / EP1 on my VA1.

I fixed it by downloading and installing the latest drivers from the ATI website.. be carefull though as the first time i did this i'd just got the machine and it all went kaput so had to restore the machine back to its factory settings - so i didn't loose anything really

Therefore - make sure you've got stuff backed up before you start.

Having said this, second time round (must have been something I did the first time) it runs like the wind - nothing like running HL2 at 1300+ res in widescreen :smileygrin:

your OS is home or pro ?

PRO is good for gaming, home is shit for game ! dont ask why ! ask it to MICROSOFT !

thanks for that people..my os is windows xp pro:)...i have tried to install the latest drivers from ati,but when trying to install them i get the message ....no video inf found cannot continue????...Anybody help please...Thanks again

:smileygrin: Finally done folks!!!...i had to download dhmodtool3 in order to install the latest drivers...game runs perfectly now!!!...Thanks for all your help.
