hi,

no this is not proper at all... but if you will call the support line they will give you a lecture on proper battery usage... and will tell you that this is more or less your fault...

Check your settings in power panel - could be you're set for 'performance' rather than battery life.

ive had a laptop before and i know how to look after the battery which is what i have been doing. ive learnt the hard way before

ive checked the settings as well but they are fine. i set it up so when on the battery it uses the maximum battery setting and ive also put it on quiet

is there anythi8ng else i can do?

hi,

what i ment to say is that i have the same problems with my batteries... and i too had to call support and ask them.... but no they insisted that it was my fault do to the way i used my battery... i told them about proper usage and every thing, but they didn't care.... they suggested for me to buy a new battery....

just remember...

YOU MAKE IT A SONY.... in other words... YOU MAKE SONY RICH!

If the machine lasts only for 1/2 hour doing nothing then I would say there is a problem with the battery - this seems a little short even for a 'desktop' chip; BTW what chip do you have?

it has a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 desktop CPU with 512MB of DDR266

Have you tried giving the battery a full charge, then going into Battery Information>Advanced, and comparing the design capacity against full charge capacity. With a fairly new battery, there shouldn't be too much difference between the figures. If there is, sounds like a charging/battery fault.

Dave's right - 30mins is quite poor performance. I would speak to Sony about this as it's not really good enough.

IBM Thinkpad used to have a software that will discharged the battery fully and recharged it back, ie reconditioning the battery. Why do Sony not have the software install on the Sony laptop?
