No, this is not usual for a new Vaio.
I suggest that you recover your notebook to factory settings to see whether this cures the problem (using your recovery media or the hidden recovery partition – F10 at boot).
If this has no effect you will need to contact Vaio-Link to arrange a collection as this may be hardware related.
