my sony vaio, cooling fan turns on when it gets too warm (obviously)

but is there a way of MANUALLY turning it on ?????

Not as far as I know.

The usual fan-management programs do not seem to work easily on Vaios running XP.

Sorry, but the question has to be asked – why would you want the fan on when the CPU temperature doesn’t require it? Most posts in of this nature complain about the fan running too frequently.

You can manually control the fan but as the others suggest you could damage your pc if, say, the pc needed more cooling but you've manually changed it to 60%.

Google "Speedfan", and it'll allow you to do it!
