Due to an update of firmware I cannot record DVD in a AR31S

Hello, I have a portable VGN-AR31S; I have updated firmware of the optical unit Matsushita UJ-210 to the 1.06; and I have let be able to record DVD. I have recovered the operating system and follows without recording DVD. I can record CD and YOU, but nonDVD.
I have proven with Nero 9,0, Roxio Easy Backup 9.

Hay some way to return to a version from firmware previous to the 1.06?

The PC has more than 2 years.

Hi jose_luis_1974,

I have a feeling that this will be difficult to resolve as the original firmware for the drive is not part of the original driver/utility package.

It may of course be coincidence that the drive fails to record DVD after the update but I doubt it.

Unfortunately I think that you need to contact support.

Hello !

I have already called to Technical Support and they deny the repair to me in guarantee.

I can record CD and BD, but non DVD from the update.

If I record CD and BD is not a physical failure, truth?

Hi jose_luis_1974,

CD and DVD use the same laser lens but Blu-ray uses a different lens. So in theory if you can burn CD then you should also be able to burn DVD. That said software and firmware also have a bearing on this and therefore I have no definitive answer for you.

It may be ironic that this firmware update claims to improve disc compatibility but have you tried different brands of media – Verbatim, Sony?
