Double Lamp Technology

Hi does anyone know if the Sony Vaio FW21M has Double Lamp Technology as I am getting mixed views on this. I have checked with Sony post sales support and they say it does as do my local Sony Store. also on the computer to the left of the mouse pad the sticker reads as followes > 16.4 x black LCD with Double Lamp Technology and 100% colour fidelity
so this sugests it does have it.

However according to the Sony website it does not come with this facility, also when I have the computer by the side of my other Laptop which is a Vaio FW11 the brightness and clarity is not as good. will be grateful if anyone can help.

In that case you do have the double lamp technology. The 1920 x 1080 screen has the double lamp.

Most FW21M models on the Sony site only have the 1600 x 900 screen in the specifications which has the single lamp. Your model is obviously an upgrade on the normal FW21M and hence the confusion.

Hi GB Thanks for your quick answer but I have just received a reply from Sony Tech Support and they have now confused me even more.

Please be advised that the FW21M comes with 1 lamp. Please send us a picture of the sticker which says that it has dual lamp. Please send this picture to: customersupport.en@vaio-link.com

Hi Geoff,

I must admit I thought the FW21M had a 1600x900 single lamp X-black display and that the FW21Z had the 1920x1080 dual lamp X-black display..

Any chance you could attach a capture of the display settings window (Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization > Display settings) and a picture of the sticker please.?

thanks for the images.

I can see that it states on the sticker that the FW series, (note it's not model specific) has Full HD 1920x1080 16.4" X-black LCD with dual lamp technology OR 1600x900 16.4" X-black LCD.

As you can see from the display settings window your Vaio has a maximum resolution of 1600x900 therefore the screen in your FW21M is a 1600x900 16.4" single lamp X-black LCD..

Hi Thalamus I will not trouble you again but thought I would send you the images of the Sony Sticker and the capture of the display settings on my Vaio FW11S which has double lamp technology. What is on the sticker is what I have on the computer however I will wait and see what Sony have to say, will let you know the outcome if you like.
