I bought a PCG-K115B back in April with XP-Home 2002 and installed the software for my Epson Stylus CX6400 without any problems.
Recently I restored the operating system from the Sony recovery CD. Now when I try to install the Epson software I get "CRC error: The file ...data1.cab doesn't match the file in the setup's cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor". I sent the CD back to Epson and after testing they said it was OK.
The problem occurs with other software CDs but not all of them. Does anyone know what is causing this problem or how it might be resolved ?
I have a 40Gb hard drive and 500Mb ram so space and memory should not be a problem.
Many thanks, Ian.:smileycry:
Ian,
Does it work when you copy the CD to the hard disk?
I copied the entire Epson CD to the hard drive. It would not run using the install program so I tried manually installing one of the individual applications. Still got the CRC error.
I then tried Serif PhotoPlus 8 which also gives a CRC error when installing from CD. This application would not install from the hard drive.
My NTL Broadband software setup CD installed OK when the machine first arrived. Now it will not install.
Seeing as the DVD/CD-RW reads and writes jpg files ok I recon it must be something to do with the configuration of Windows XP and/or the Sony recovery process.
Sounds like a dodgy dvd drive to me.
I've been on to Sony and they can't sort it out over the phone, so sadly the laptop is going back next week for a health check.

Hopefully a quick turnaround.
