Hi carlowlass,

While we try to sort out the driver problem try this: -

What sort of data card does your camera use?
What card slots do you have on your Vaio?

Normally just inserting the memory card will bring up a box asking you whay you want to do. Choose to download your pictures using Microsoft Camera and Scanner Wizard.

Sorry - I've beem in Istanbul most of the week.

Your Vaio will is not able to take a compact Flash card direct but you can buy an adapter for a few pounds that will take the card and not need any camera specific driver.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=media+readers&x=0&y=0

When your Vaio opens in safe mode do you get any messages at all? The likelyhood is that the finepix driver has caused the problem (unless you have changed anything else recently) so try uninstalling this driver in Device Manager.

A;though it is advisable to make recovery discs, you really only need them if you have a hard disc failure because you will have the full backup software on your hard disc and as a last resort you can make a recovery back to factory condition by tapping F10 repeatedly during the boot sequence and choosing a full recovery in the recovery centre.

However, I would make discs when you get the Vaio open normally.

Thanks for that, but I am just a novice at computers!! where or what am I looking for in Device manager!! when I connect the usb cable to laptop and camera,, I am getting a yellow question mark coming up!! I tried installing a driver for the camera, and when connected I am getting message saying "Program did not install properly" Data is invalid!! hope this makes sense to you!!
My laptop is opening fine with no messages!! its other PC that wont load up and just keeps showing the same messages,, open normal, open safe mode, ect... but when I hit return button it just comes back to same black & white message!! so cannot get the computer to run atall..
Hope this all makes sense to you!!! Thanks..

Ref about camera not working!!! I ran the Vaio Hardware Diagnostics and everything came back ok,, except USB Test failed!! mess maybe problem with your USB device on the PC,, and to try another one!!
This doesnt make sense as my flash stick works in the same USB port!!!!
