Hi there,
My FJ1 is driving me crazy. It won't recognise that there is a memory stick in the slot (drive E). I've tried uninstalling the drivers, reinstalling the drivers, doing a system restore..... nothing works. Tried to right click and format the drive, it just keeps telling me there is no memeory stick in the slot, but the stick (pro duo) works fine in my T7 camera and in my w900i.
The indicator light on the laptop lights up to confirm there is a stick in the slot, just the computer doesn't agree with it. Any help out there please?
Cheers!
Hi volcum_nick,
Welcome to Club Vaio,
Have a look at this thread, it seems that formating the card in the Vaio slot solved the problem..:smileyconfused:
cheers for that!
I actually read that post earlier, but the problem is that the drive does not recognise there is a memory stick there. Even when I right click and select format I still get the message saying there is no card in the drive
Any other sugesstions would be great.
Hi volcom_nick,
Right clik My Computer, select Manage and then Disk Management does the memory stick details appear, does have a drive letter assigned?
Also is this the first time you have used a memory stick on your Vaio?
Hi Thalamus,
I've tried that and the drive is denoted on the lower half of the screen. It doesn't appear in the top half. It's labelled as the "E:" drive, it states that there is no media in the drive - even though i know there is!
It's not the first time i've used the slot, it was pretty tempremental in the past (purchased in march 06) but I haven't used the internal drive for a while.
Hope that helps a bit........ thanks very much for taking the time to help me out here, it's appreciated!
Nick
ok people....... just tried a system recovery and it's still not playing ball! And now i have to reinstall all my additional software! Boooo
Any other suggestions before i head into the local sony centre and part with my laptop while they spend 2 weeks trying to figure it out?? Cheers in advance
I read on another forum (can't find the link now :smileyblush: ) that dust in the slot can sometimes cause read problems..
Not sure how you would clean it though..:smileyconfused:
I can just picture me with a pair of tweezers and a straw....... blowing gently to clear away the cobwebs!:smileywink:
I think it might be time for Mr Sony. Still not had anything from eSupport, thats been a few days now. Are they normally this efficient?
Cheers for the help Thalamus
not many people have had much luck when it comes to Sony efficiency. Try the trusty Hoover, with one of them adapters on the end, and stretch a bit of cloth across it to reduce the pull, as well as lowering the suction strength. this would take the dust OUT, rather than moving it... Primitive i know, but it works- ive dun it on loads of stuff.
Better still use compressed air.
Remember vacuum cleaners create TONNES of static electricity which kills laptops faster than almost anything else...
Compressed air canisters cost typically around £5 - £7 and work wonders for removing dust from slots, fan vents, keys on the keyboard etc...
