I can’t stream channel 4 or itv I can’t use freeview so looks like I’ll be watching the paralympics on my Iplayer rather than my tv!
Hi @Sony2215 The starting point for any request for help, is the full model number of your TV. It should start with KD or XR or K- for the 2024 models. Note for CH4 or ITVX you need YouView or Live TV and Catch Up enabled. You don't have to use them. For older models look under Sony Select.
I have SonyKE 55A8
i have live tv and catch up enabled but have no terrestrial signal so rely on Ch4 and Itv Apps. I’ve seen elsewhere that Sony doesn’t allow live stream on apps. It’s a joke
Hi @Sony2215
There is no "Live" on the ITVX version supplied with all Sony TVs (I don’t know about My4). Rightly or wrongly they assume you have a live feed by terrestrial or satellite.
If I was in your situation, I would add a streaming stick to my TV like Amazon Fire or Roku. I haven’t done any research, but do other TV manufacturers provide live streaming? It may be time to move to a different make as you find that your TV doesn’t meet your needs.
Iplayer streams live so no idea why the others don’t. I believe it’s peculiar to Sony so I made a bad call when I purchased.
Yes, Sony TVs have to be tuned at least once in the beginning with the aerial or the cable that you have, and then you can watch Live TV apps.
Very frustrated after depending 2k on a TV in 2024 that struggles to stream via an app.
You state I need to tune my tv with an aerial first ?, how is an aerial signal relevant to a Internet stream
I’m not sure the old ‘tune the TV first’ still applies to the latest models, but you at least have to supply your postcode, so they know to pretend which TV region you are in.
But it’s a bit forlorn hoping for live streams from the apps on TVs; LG do the same as Sony, maybe Samsung too (I haven’t checked lately) and with the exception of the BBC iPlayer, don’t provide live streaming on their broadcaster apps.
Dont sweat it though; get a Roku or Amazon device, 4K if you can run to it, under £50, plug it in an HDMI port on the TV, all the broadcaster apps will include their live channels, and don’t bother with the apps on the TV.
@Swampydrill it's needed for the live programs, it's just how's the TV is you can use a fire stick as an alternative.
