I have a new Sony KDL-43WF663
Latest firmware v8.414-1000-1.410-0002
On occasions, after changing channels, the sound will 'vibrate' like it's cutting in and out very quickly.
My fix, that works 95% of the time is to change channels +/- 1 then back again via the dedicated rocker button.
Exactly the same connections as my old 32" Sony that was faultless.
My signal quality is 100 throughout all channels (expected as I'm under Crystal Palace and with a dedicated Freeview aerial). Under BBC1 the signal level is 100 but under some other channels it drops to 97 which still looks OK to me.
When the level is 97 the previterbi does move about a little but the post viterbi is always zero.
Is this a known problem with a fix ?
Yes,mine was only on Drama channel, very intermittant & stuttering sound.
Put on standby & restart or remove DC power plug & refit.
100% signal & quality on all channels.
I applied the latest firmware 8.464.1000.1.700.0002 & it did fix it.
The downside the BBC Teletext no longer works.
Sony are trying to assist on this.
I would say don't do another firmware update yet.
Maybe contact Sony ask.
Thanks
Yes, Drama is a prime culprit.
I've got auto update firmware set but I haven't got your version. Being as I do use Teletext in the mornings them I'll hang off as you suggest.
On a side note, if I'd have known Sony have dropped 'Schedule Viewing' I'd not have bought another Sony, I really miss that feature, used it daily.
Maybe the sound on Drama was at a low bitrate & the 663 was not tolerant to that.
Wonder if a widespread problem.
The firmware version I have was via the Sony website under support.
It has given added features.
Yes I miss the Teletext & used it daily.
It is channel specific. Never does it on BBC1 for example.
As I said, all I need to do is + or - the channel, then come back and 95% of the time it temporarily fixes it.
Yes ony Drama channel.
Must keep an eye on that as I'm sure I've it on other channels, just not the major ones.
Just for info, given that they took me ages to get right, to my taste:
Backlight | 7 |

LED Motion | Off |
I've been asked to mark this as solved.
Bit early yet as I haven't had chance to fully check. It didn't always vibrate the sound and I'm not 100% convinced it was only Drama.
If I don't have any issues in the next few weeks I'll post back as solved.
Mine does seem ok on Drama now.
What other channels are affecting you, I will check mine.
Certainly BBC1 & 2 & the HD 1 & 2 seem ok.
I can't actually remember.
I can remember that the sound distortion was quite frequent onthe 'lesser' channels and all I did was to use the + / - channel rocker to up / down or down / up and it would more often than not solve it.
So far so good though.
Now getting used to the new Teletext replacement, seems to have it all, and better, as there is no pages 1 & 2. All on a single page.
It is slow and jerky though, even on my fibre connection with the TV connected by CAT6.
Just needs some getting used to where it all is now.
