Difference between internet functionality of TV's and Blu-ray players

I already own a recent Sony TV, the 37EX720, which has the option for "Sony Internet TV", for which I would only need to use the USB Wi-Fi dongle. I noticed that a lot of the recent Blu-Ray players from Sony also include some kind of internet functionality (supposedly also Youtube). Can someone clarify to me how these functionalities compare to eachother? Is the internet functionality of TVs and Blu-Ray players identical?

Basically the IP functionality is the same now, earlier models had more of a variance but pretty sure the 2012 devices are the same.
