Bravia avi - compare files that do/don't work KDL-32EX43B

Bear with me. I am trying to understand why some avi's work and other's do not. I have two files, one works the other doesn't. But I cannot figure out why. Can someone:

• Review the files and tell me what makes the good one work on the TV?
• Offer assistance on how to identify a 'good' avi in future
• Share how to convert a 'bad' avi into a 'good' one

I'll add the information on the two avi's below, I want to note that these are legitimate community avi's that I want to see, not illegal.

No advice will be overlooked - I really want to understand this!

Yes, I have exactly the same problem with my brand-new KDL-40EX720.

One .avi actually played through to the end without as so much as a glitch. Of another the TV says it can't play it. And a third fails with the same error message after a minute or so.

A work-around would be handy or a way to make sure it works correctly (I downloaded the last firmwire update and it is installed).

I have the same issue too, and have been analysing video files and properties.

I have found that the only difference between the AVIs that can play and those that can't is the writing application. All the ones that can't play have writing application: 'transcode-1. etc.'

This is why your video did not work ceallac. Your bad video had:

I'm quite sure this is at least among the problems here. I've been using this to determine if an AVI will work on my TV or not, and so far I've been accurate.

I don't understand why, or have the solution to it. But I hope that someone can find a solution to it now that this had been shed light upon.

The AVI is not a file, it is a container , that mean it can have many types of codec.

Sony firmware has built-in specific codecs (not all included) , if the AVI is transcoded by different langauge then it will not play.

I read in one Sony manual that the below AVI container is ONLY matching with the product

PCM / MPEG1 Layer1, 2 / MP3 /

I am having similar problems to the original poster of this thread, some AVI's play and others dont.

I see you mention that the avi is just a container and that avi's can have different codecs. On the previous posts the good and bad details for the two avi's both had the same codec details for video and audio so surely that codecs can't be this issue?

I have converted a lot of my home movies using FreeMake but none of them play on my KDL32CX523. The codec I selected was XviD with MP3 audio.

I have recordings from my FreeSat box that were converted by StaxRip and they play fine and they also specified XviD and MP3 as the codecs.

I'm confused with this, anyone know what the issue with these files are?

As said before, .avi is just the extension of the file. It depends on what sort of codec the file was made. You can use this program http://gspot.headbands.com/ to determine which codec the file has and if it is not in the list of supported files then it will not play. To find a solution to that will be to find a program that can convert from the codec that does not work to one of the supported formats.
