Super slow download from www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com

I am trying to download the PC companion/SUS from www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com for the past 8 hours but failed to do so.

Transfer rate at the range of 15Kbps - 20Kbps and it got stuck before reaching 100%.

Is the server still under heavy load?

This is sad.

I am suprise that Sony did not take the bandwidth into consideration when it come to major software roll out.

Again, no official word from them again. This is just sad, bad customer experience if you ask me Slightly_frowning_Face

ANNOUNCEMENT:
UPDATE: Problems updating to ICS

Hi,

We have identified the earlier issues and are working to implement the solution across all available ICS updates. This process will happen gradually beginning now.

Feel free to run your update again now to see if it is available, or wait and we will inform you here when all updates have been re-released.

Hi,

Unfortunately it seems that some users have problems to update their phones to ICS even if their SI number is in the list. We have located some issues and we're working on fixing them as soon as possible.

So if your SI number is listed for the ICS update but you still get the message saying that your phone is up-to-date stay calm we're working on it. We will come back with more info soon.

have you tried a different connection, because I just downloaded SUS and it took 1 minute and the update took 7minute (re-downloaded ICS)

I believe the speed will depend on the region from where he's downloading from. I'm from the Philippines and I downloaded SUS last night and it took me about 40+ mins. Just have to be patient. I decided to sleep and let Sony sort the server issues and in the morning tried SUS again. Got ICS now. Slightly_smiling_Face

tried the speedtest thingy.

Download speed at the range of 6Mbps - 7Mbps even when I try to connect from Malaysia to Canada.

I think the real problem is not only about the speed, but also the reliability of the connection. I tried "pinging" the server and I will have connection drop every now and then.

Generally I think this is related to the server bandwidth. Like I said, it suprise me that Sony did not take bandwidth into consideration when it come to major softwre roll out like this. They can go claim it is unexpected but their failure to anticipate traffic flow into their server finally cause a lousy experience for their customer.

I agree Sony should take this into consideration for their own good

you can always get SUS from other websites

That link refer back to the same mirror copy.

Actually what's the diff between update via PC companion vs SUS?

Is it the same copy of firmware or what?
