My Xperia L has started to behave like some one is randomly pressing and swiping the screen.
This usually occurs after side button is pressed to switch screen on. It can be just a few presses or can go on for many minutes. It happens during charging or when powered by battery.
It also occurs sometimes during use. It will cut off off or make a call, send texts, change settings, plays music, changes time and date and generally is a real pain! - It's almost as if it has recorded a load of previous presses and is playing them back yet really pressing the screen does respond instantly but with phantom presses continuing (usually very rapidly) afterwards.
It has once successfully entered my swipe Patten and has placed an emergency call - so am now quite desperate to get a fix for this.
I have latest updates installed and removing the battery fixes only for a short time.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Well the phantom key presses have stopped with none during last 24 hours. This was after USB debugging was activated and PCC update phone software / repair phone was run succesfully (2nd attempt)..
All account data has returned including address book, apps and photo's. 'My Xperia' is unable to find my phone now but I'm not too worried about that.
I'll mark this as problem solved. Thanks
I get this and as you said removing the battery or force shut down will resolve it - I've removed the 3rd party screen protector and removed it from the case and it still happens so it's not those things
try to boot in safe mode and see how it goes

if you havent problem in safe mode so 3rd party apps acting up
Thank you Danial-mach1, I wasn't aware of this safe mode. I am trying it now.
Because fault is intermittant (worse longer phone is not used) I will write later to let you know if this has worked.
I had already deleted all recently added apps but new os may affect earlier ones.
That was quick! - No it is already tapping away to itself. So not an installed app causing problem.
oops!
are you willing to software repair via SUS?
but keep in mind all of your data on internall storage will gone..so backup if you want
Backup took forever but finally finished. Will give SUS a try now. Thanks again for your help. Will report back when complete and restored.
Unfortuneately SUS won't run. It downloaded ok but, after pressing volume control whilst plugging in usb, it reports that it was unable to install driver QHSUSB_DLOAD because driver is not found. 'More details' suggested I have either no internet connection or automatic updates were swithched off (win 7) but connection is good and auto updates are on.
I don't have QHSUSB_DLOAD on my pc nor can find a safe looking version on the net. It apears to be just a usb driver and the one that comes with PC Companion is working ok but obviously there is some difference.
You are welcome friend
Do you have PCC on your pc?
