Hi, I've been having this bug for a long time.
My sony Xperia showing:
Internal Storage > Picture and Videos (2.1 GB)
BUT I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH PICTURE IN INTERNAL STORAGE!!
Where this 2gb gone? I only have few images left in internal storgae which I believe spend no more than 2 - 4MB.
I always save my pictures and videos in my SD card.
Even the "transfer to Sd card" method only detects 600KB size pics.
When I try to look on my Internal Storage Album, all I have left are those pic (screenshoot) which cost no more than few KB.
I cannot save any game and application data because I do not have any more space on my internal strorage!!
It's impossible for me to keep deleting apps everytime i need a space, and sacrificing it because of this bug.
Solved! Go to Solution.
There's a hidden folder called .thumbnail and could account for the missing storage - Use a file manager app and check to show hidden files and folders
thank you so much for the respond!!!
Now before I continue, am I allowed to erase everything inside the thumbnail data (includes the .thumbdata) ?
Yes but they will come back - When you open the album app and you see your images - Those images are your thumbnails - There maybe thumbnails which are now not needed so in doing so you may free up some space
it's fixed now!
Thank you so much for the help!!
No problem
and delete that .thumbdata so your memory will back in just a minute
Solution exists. I tried and it works. It is easy:
Use some browser on your PHONE (not in computer) for example Total Commander:
1) Create FOLDER with the same name as big thumb file ".thumbdata3--XXXXXXX". NOT FILE, but FOLDER!!!
2) Delete FILE .thumbdata3--XXXXXXXXX (DCIM/.thumbnails/.thumbdata3--XXXXXXXX)
(There will not be possible to have folder and file with the same name in one folder. For example create new folder on different place and move it.)
3) If Total Commander shows the same value of free space in phone, switch OFF and ON the phone (normal way) and look into folder "LOST.DIR". Delete files inside.
Thats all. Enjoy.
Xperia L user.
