Timer problem on HDX870

I would be really grateful if someone could help me with this problem. I’ve been fiddling around with settings and pouring over the instruction manual for hours but cannot so far fix the problem. I have a Sony Bravia TV connected to a Sony DVD recorder RDR-HXD870. They have been working fine together for several years and I’ve recorded dozens of programmes using the EPG. Occasionally the recorder automatically switches over to Guide Plus, which I don’t like, so I simply put it back to EPG and continue recording happily. A couple of days ago, however, this happened again, I put it back to EPG, and this may or may not have been the source of my current problem, which is that the recorder will only record a fuzzy screen using EPG, even though it comes on and turns off at the correct time. There is no problem when recording manually. I suspect that there’s a very simple adjustment to a setting that I need to make to put this right, but I cannot see how to do this. Looking at all the settings on the various screens, the one that doesn’t seem right is the Timer screen. First I click Guide and select a programme, then click on the programme to bring me to the Timer screen. The top left of this screen has a box called Pr/CH which, according to the instruction manual, ‘sets the programme position and the source’. Again according to the instruction manual, the figures in the box directly below should be “AAB”. In my case, though, they now are “A.TV 1”, and I cannot find any way to change this to AAB, which I think is what was there until a couple of days ago. If I click on the Timer button, and then on New Imput, I can access the Pr/CH box, but it only allows me to change “A.TV 1” to “Line 1” or “Line 2”. I guess that if I could change this back to AAB that would sort out my problem. Can anyone help please? I would be so grateful.
