The BBC iPlayer has been given an overhaul. The problem is that the new interface gives a "not enough memory" error - and we're now unable to use the iPlayer.
It's a problem that has also been registered by others at the BBC's iPlayer forum.
Can we rewind to the old interface please ?

Solved! Go to Solution.
"Sony is still investigating this issue" is certainly more encouraging than Catmambo's "This isn't a solution that can be driven from Sony side I'm afraid." I'm assuming Sony wouldn't carry out an investigation if there were no chance of that investigation driving a solution.
"Just because the iPlayer works on another device, does not mean the product has a fault.."
Your setting up a straw man, then knocking him down with a big stick. Nobody said the device was at fault. We're saying the software can be changed to avoid the problem - which we know to be the case because other software in other devices is avoiding the problem. Can I make this any clearer?
"as you can see from paulgrecothomp post above it can be resolved by resetting your routers IP, this should not be required and helps show the issue is not the player"
No, wrong, it shows that the Sony player has an issue communicating with some of Tiscalis IP addresses. The issue can therefore be resolved by changing how the Sony player communicates with Tiscali. One assumes this can be done by altering the Sony software or possibly altering something at Tiscali's end. But please don't insult our intelligence by saying it proves it's "not the player". It does no such thing, and even if you could perform the impressive feat of proving this negative, it still wouldn't prove nothing can be done at your end. Which it can.
Hi All
I think a few things are being miss understood here, The player does not hold any software for iPlayer, it has a link to a service, to which it will download the data supplied by the provider, this request is carried in the form of a header, to identify its product type and the interface it should be supplied, unlike a PC or games console which has software, this header is being modified during the routing to the supply and returns as a PC, this causes the player to fall over and display out of memory. The difficult facts with this problem is the amount of customers being effected, so far reported to Customer information there are only 44 customer, mostly Talk Talk who have this problem. Our product quality department are speaking with Talk Talk and the BBC to help them identify what is happening, but as we can’t reproduce the issue here with colleges who are on Talk Talk (including me) it makes it even harder. The Virgin Media issue is resolved by adding a proxy to the web cache, however this does not help with other ISP's.
We do have customer with the problem, who have tried alternative providers and the problem is no longer present, we are not able to point any fingers at this time as to why, but every effort is being done to push this matter, however it will take time, however we are working on the problem, even if it is not directly the product at fault.
As difficult as it is to be patient, we thank for your patience to date.
Thanks. It's good to see that it's acknowledged as a problem and it's being worked on. As this has worked for sometime, it's been frustrating that it stopped working. When something is great and is taken away again - that becomes very frustrating.
My 6 year old found it great to be able to access her favourite CBBC programs, at a time when she was allowed some telly, rather than me having to record favourites and so on.
It's also been frustrating that very occasionally it has worked - but not for me for a couple of weeks now.
Having just had a firmware problem that I can't reproduce to deal with over the last few days, I empathise...
...but I want a fix ... and yesterday !! (please 🙂
Quite right! The iPlayer worked fine on the Sony player initially, but rarely does it fire-up now.
I've placed and enquiry with the BBC, but I'm not expecting much back.
I don't really want to return my player because it's really good at playing DVD's. On the other hand, I did buy this model because it said it could access the iPlayer.
By the way, I'm also with Talk Talk.
It's very disappointing.
I also have the "not enough memory" problem. I bought thr blu ray player last november and it worked finr up until about three weeks ago. At first it was intermittant but for the last two weeks it has not worked at all. I am with Utility Wharehouse who I think use Talk Talk as thier isp.
Like many the reason for buying this model was the ability to wath i player on the big tv, not any longer. Its very frustrating. I have tried the changing the isp addresss thing, for 40 minutes but to no avail. I dont understand the technicalities of who's problem it is or isnt but would just like to be able to use the player for one of the main reasons it was purchased.
Cheers,
Dave
If this many people have bothered to join a forum then there must be a lot more out there wondering why they have shelled out on this blue ray player which no longer does what it says on the box.
Come on Sony, get your finger out!
I'm not that interested in the technical side of the issue, I just want it to work like it did when I bought it.
Still disappointed!
Hi all
Just an update. Again to confirm, the issue is has been identified on BBC side and being resolved at the moment. Seemingly its a couple of issues around configuration rules and geo-filtering which when combined cause this to happen. The BBC are optimistic that the bug on their side should be fixed in the next fortnight or so but it may also require TalkTalk to also make changes.
Thanks
This is what I got back from the BBC. The reference to the Wii is because I mentioned that the picture on Wii iPlayer isn't as good as the Sony's picture. In other words, they got 'the wrong end of the stick!'
Thank you for contacting the BBC iPlayer support team.
I understand that you’re having problems accessing the ‘big screen’ version of iPlayer via your Sony BDP-S370 and I also note that playback via your Wii is poor.
We appreciate your feedback and we’re unable to give specific technical advice on third party products therefore we’d suggest that you contact the manufacturer.
With regards to your Wii console you may wish to see the following link:

Thanks again for contacting the BBC iPlayer support team.

To add to the debate, I can connect to the 'correct' version of the iplayer via my humax freesat box, but the S470 uses the other version, using exactly the same connection.
Do the Sony representatives have any comments as to why this only appears to be happening with SONY bluray players? I may be wrong but google doesn't throw up any "not enough memory / iplayer" discussions for any other devices as far as I can see.. I'd happy to be proved wrong if you could post links showing otherwise.
It certainly seems odd that this is all to do with the BBC handling requests via Tiscali, yet only Sony Blurays are affected, not other Blurays or other devices making the same requests on the same network.
