SVR-HDT500 poor sound

I get poor quality audio from my SVR-HDT500 when connected to a high end hifi 2 channel DAC that accepts PCM inputs only.

The DAC is connected with an optic cable from a Sony TV & it get its input from 3 different tuners:

TV broadcast,  from BDP-S550 (Blueray) via HDMI,  from the SVR-HDT500 via HDMI.

TV broadcast sound is good

BDP replay sound is excellent

SVR-HDT either link thru broadcast or recorded replay is poor, hisses, momentary cuts out, sometimes is OK, most times its not.

The SVR-HDT is set for Dolby "off",  but that does not made any difference.

I don't see any other setting to control audio output

I can reset my DAC to switch off the adaptive reclocking & this stops the hiss problem,  but the sound quality is reduced overall & that is unacceptable on Blueray.

ANY IDEA'S  ????

Have you updated the firmware on the device? Pretty sure there have been some updates since it was launched which may help. Failing that maybe take it along to your local service centre and get it looked over..

Thanks

BUMP

No answers from Sony or from this forum

My hifi people have bent over backwards,  but can't help as the DAC can only process S/PDIF encoded signals.

This is getting to the point that the Sony is about to get replaced with a Humax or something

The new software is not available over the air,  seems it will only be available on HD

- as it happens I get that next week

I looked around www & found the software upgrade - 4.21.r8585 - on the Sony www & downloaded to USB. It comes in as a zip file & must be unzipped (extracted) for it to be recognised & uploaded

The process is easy & quick - follow instructions on the Sony www that you get it from if yr unsure

The sound now seems much better,  the hiss is gone & that was the main problem. I will say its done & dusted but the jury will be out until I get some program to check for real stereo & also something with heavy dynamics such as F1.

Thansk for the help
