Hi,
I just purchased a Sony Soundbar (Model HT-CT26) and I am trying to conenct it to my Philips 47" LCD TV (Model 47PFL5522D).
The user manual advises me to connect the soundbar to the tv with the supplied Digital Optical Cord. However I've just come up against a problem. This TV doesn't have an Optical Digital Audio output! It seems to have every other type of outlet, including HDMI x 2, Scart x 2, CVBS/S-Video, Audio In.
Unfortunately, the Soundbar doesn't have an HDMI outlet.
Any suggestions on how to get around this and connect up the soundbar??

Hi,
i think your limited with what you can do here since you do not have a Digital Optical out from your tv which the soundbar requires so thats a no go area, however you could still use this, say from your sky box/virgin box or blu ray player that has Optical out, though in order to use one or the other may involve switching between devices since theres only one optical in.

Thanks Bravia...,
Good advice. I've now hooked up the soundbar to my Sky box with the Digital Optical cable and it works fine for the channels received from this box. The only problem, as you quite rightly pointed out, is that I will need to keep switching the optical cable between varuious devices, as there's only one optical-in on the Soundbar, which is not ideal.
your welcome,
heres a heads up, i dont know if that will help but one of these ??

That's great Bravia..., I never knew such an item existed! It looks like it's just what I need.
Thanks again for the benefit of your knowledge. It's much appreciated.
Late model big brand TV's have 2 'ARC HDM ports along with 3 other HDMI ports. Any device connected to it will send an digital optical audio signal to it. My Sony has it. A top quality HDMI cable is more then twice the price of a Digital Optical Cord. I thought my Sony had no Optical Digital Audio output but it did. It's labled 'digital audio' I use both an HDMI cable and Digital Optical Cord . My sound and picture quality is remarkable
