Sony BDP-S185 Smart Blu-ray player to SD tv will it work for iplayer?

I have just brought a Smart DVD player so that we can watch BBC iplayer on our standard Sony CRT widescreen 16:9 TV it has separate red/white/yellow phono connections as does the player. I didn't realise the player wouldn't have a scart connection! I realise the quality won't be better but will it work if I connect it in this way? The idea is to buy a HD TV later when we move house but not knowing the room size yet we don't want to buy tv yet but are fed up with watching iplayer on the laptop.

Has anyone got any experience to help? Or should I get my money back from Argos before the 16 days are up?

Hi

We are sorted now.

Re:-  Enhanced features found the web address https://internet.sony.tv and was able to register ok, this was very difficult to read on screen, see below.

Re:- Network update - The solution was to connect directly to cable modem bypassing router, reboot modem then turn on player and factory reset network settings, I might have turned off and on player in between then I connected to iplayer it took 2 goes and after that Update worked. Once done the menu screen was clearer and less fuzzy and I could read the messages better see comment above, these are quite small on a 28" SD telly!!

After reconnecting via router everything works except Network Update and when I view Network settings it says internet connection has failed however all the content works well and theiplayer menu is much clearer/sharper.

Thanks for help guys, hope this helps anyone else with Virgin cable broadband.

Any further problems I'll be back!

Hi

No reason why it shouldn't work - sometimes content providers may require a secure digital connection like HDMI, but i don't think this is currently the case. Give it a go

Thanks

Hi

Thanks it works ok in that it displays fine and on iplayer the picture is great but maybe a little fuzzy on the menus. The remote even works the TV it being a Sony I guess that is normal.

However I can't get it to perform a software update or activate the enhanced features. It seems to have trouble with our internet connection! BBC iplayer works so internet connection is ok I then come out of iplayer and go to Network update it trys then says there is no internet connection, I go back to iplayer and it works fine! I can get on the Sony network, Billabong and others if I wait for the software update message to disappear but every now and then it reminds me to do it! I've tried a complete reset and various permutations of switching off and on but no joy. I tried to activate Enhanced features to see if that helps it gives me a code to enter on internet but I can't figure out where to enter that on the Sony web site. I have registered the product on My Sony but none of this helps!

Have you any ideas or do you think it is faulty.

We have a high speed Virgin fibre optic cable internet connection via acble modem to a Netgear wireless router the Blu-ray is connected via an ethernet cable to the router.

Frustrated
