Setting up skyHD, Apple TV and blu ray

Hello, I’ve got Sony TV, and no sound coming via my blu Ray. Question- do I have to have a cable from sky box hdmi going to the blu Ray ? In order to hear the sound ? If I do this then the blu Ray has to be on all the time. How do I setup the sound system if I put the hdmi cable into the TV ? Do I need an optical cable going from TV to blu ray box ?
