I have a Bravia 46HX803 3d tv, STR3600ES Amp and 501 Blue Ray player.
I'm trying to make things easy for the wife and want her to be able to switch from Sky to BD using the BD, Sat/CATV, TV buttons as they seem a logical button to hit for a non techy when you want to switch between inputs !
I've got Sky going into HDMI one, BD into HDMI 2 and have managed to correctly assign inputs using the GUI.
The problem I have is assigning Audio in on the respective media input.
Whilst there is an HDMI 1, HDMI 2 input for video, there isn't an HDMI Audio input available ? it gives me BD coax etc but no HDMI. I can therefore get a picture when I press the Sat/CATV or BD button on the AMP remote, but no sound.
When I press the HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 button on the remote I get piccy and sound, but it seems logical to me that I should just press the BD or Sat/CATV button rather than the HDMI ones ?!
Am I being particularly thick ?
Thanks in advance
CJ

Hi,
no you are not thick!, this can be a very daunting experience for any newbie in the world of home cinema set ups and certainly not an easy one to explain when your sitting on the other side of the fence!,
an easy way round your sound problem is to use a digital coaxial cable on your blu ray player and set up in your player for audio to Dolby Digital coaxial out to Dolby Digital.
before you do this if your set up supports ARC (audio return channel) set Audio HDMI to Auto that should do it, if not then the Digital coaxial will.
as for the sky audio, i dont know about those settings, but if push comes to shove a Digital Optical cable will sort that out!.
since you were not clear what kit you have thats the best i can offer (your kit model numbers).
i know all this is confusing for a novice, but, if you do one thing at a time, sure as hell, it will all come to you in the end.

Thanks for that - I have actually listed my model numbers at the top of the posting 😉
Will check out the ARC on the Amp. The thing that confuses me is that HDMI should provide sound and vision ?
Cheers
