Problems since digital switchover with digital Sony TV and HDD recorders.

We have two Sony HDD recorders with digital freeview tuners and two Sony TVs.  We are Sony fans as you can tell!  We were exceptionally happy and advised everyone I knew to have this setup instead of sky UNTIL DIGITAL SWITCHOVER! 

Since then, every time a new channel is added or removed from the digital array, our Sony DVD recorders hang with the display D--.  We then need to perform a manual retune, which is taking upto 30 minutes, and all of our series record settings have been deleted.  This is EXTREMELY annoying as it seems to happen nearly every day and we have 4 different retunes to perform nearly every day. 

It's driving me mad and makes the series record function (on which I used to rely and now miss most of my favourite programmes because I don't notice the problem until the evening) totally pointless.  HELP PLEASE ASAP before I chuck the whole lot in the bin and get SKY and Panasonic!

I hope Sony monitor this site because it seem impossible to get into contact with them directly!

Dear heaterb1145 you can find in this forum lots of threads regarding this problem. You didn't mention the model of recorders you own, in any case please be sure you upgrade the firmware to the latest version (1.70 in case of an HXDx70 or 1.24 for HXDx90 series) than make an hard reset of the machine (stop+off button together). Once you make the retune/setup, they will work smoothly as before. From time to time, when you have problems like that you can re-do the same procedure. Normally it last several month before giving you problems again.

I did not notice the model number for you device which have the mentioned problem , but i saw some new firmwares has been released to fix this problem for a specific models

Hope you are doing fine

We are posting almost the same reply in the same moment :slight_smile: , you advanced me by 6 minutes , yeah it is firmware issue (most probably) but you answer have more details :smileyhappy:...it is nice we share same idea here

Wow - thank you that was quick and you both sound like you know what you are talking about!!!

My model is HXD995 so I'll obviously need the 1.24 version of firmware.

Next question as my husband and I are not very technical...

What is firmware and how do I get it and install it onto my HDD box please?  I've looked at all the menus and can't see anything.  Presumably I need to download something from the net, put it on a CD/DVD and then insert it into the box ... or....?
