Problem with my HXD870 DVD recorder

I have just gone digital by buying myself a new Sony  KDL-40NX703 TV and Sony HXD870 DVD recorder.  Everything seemed fine until I wanted to record a program on the HDD on the DVD recorder whilst watching a DVD at the same time.  Now this has happened several times.  I set the timer on the DVD recorder and start to watch a DVD movie.  When the timer starts, the DVD movie stops and I get the following message being displayed on the TV

"PLAYBACK HAS STOPPED BECAUSE THE TV SYSTEM HAS BEEN SET DIFFERENTLY"

I have read the 200 page manual of the DVD recorder but cannot find this phase.  Can someone please help as this is driving me crazy.  I have the latest firmware in both the TV and DVD recorder.

Thanks.

Can you check that the DVD is not encoded in NTSC?  DivX is usually NTSC.

The Recorder is incapable of handling NTSC Playback (DVD or DivX) and PAL recording at the same time.  This is the same with other recorders (Pioneer etc).

The Manual (Page 89) says "Note: You can not play a DVD, DivX video or VIDEO CD recorded in the NTSC colour system while recording on the HDD in the PAL/SECAM colour system".

Hi,

good lord!, could not believe that manual (had a quick look online at it), i really have no idea on this but would suspect the answer lies on page 88 and has something to do with the two buttons on the top of the remote (HDD/DVD).
