I have just purchased a Sony BDP-S480 Blu-ray DVD player, and I am having a problem playing 3D Blu-ray discs when I connect it to my HT-SF 100 Sony Home Theatre system. I am connecting them together with a HDMI cable. I have no problem with the discs when I connect the disc player direct to my Sony 46EX723 via HDMI. The player has no problem playing standard DVD Discs through the Home theatre system, it is only 3D films that I get the message on the TV screen that no 3D content is detected, and the disc will not play. It seems to me that the HT-SF 100 is unable to handle the 3D content. Is there any way I can enable the home system to play 3D Blu-ray discs, please?

Hi,
in order for 3D to work, your HDMI must be the latest High Speed types 1.4, can you check those first, Amazon still have the Pro Gold Reds on special offer for around a tenner.
also check your settings on the player and see if its set up correctly there, go to Home-set up-screen settings, check the 3D output setting to Auto, set your screen size, and type and check the rest and you should be fine.

Thank you Bravia55HX923, for your prompt reply.
I am not using a High Speed HDMI cable at the moment, I thought the salesman was trying to sell me an exhorbitant lead when he mentioned that I would need one, especially when he mentioned the £40 price. I thought in my ignorance all HDMI leads were all the same. I hadn't heard of a 1.4 type before, but following your advice I will get one and try your other suggestions. Thank you once again.

Just had a thought.... the DVD 3D player plays 3D Bluray discs perfectly, with just an ordinary HDMI cable if I connect it directly to the television. Does that negate the need for a high speed lead? If not will I require two high speed leads, one from the player to the sound system and one from the sound system to the television?
Hi again,
well i usually go with what is recommended, but at those prices on Amazon you cant go wrong.
heres another school of thought, you can always connect your sound from your player to your theater system using either Digital optical lead (can do the tv as well if you want better sound) or a Digital coaxial lead (the one i use) and connect the player to the tv with one HDMI lead.
link for the HDMI below.
let me know how you get on.
Thanks Bravia55hx923 for your help, I think I have now finally, got it as I want it.
Your suggestion of using an optical lead or a co-ax lead to transfer the sound to my Sony sound system was a winner, I have got a spare optical lead and following your suggestion, I found that both the television and my sound system had Spidif? connectors so it was an easy matter to plug in the optical lead and try it. The result was better than I expected it, 5.1 sound from the Blu-ray player, and I can get the sound from normal television going through the sound system. As a bonus the TV sorts it all out, when I turn on the television now it automatically switches the television sound off and directs the sound into the sound system. I think this is a better solution than buying new HDMI leads. Thanks for all your help.
