No TV sound through Home Cinema

Hi,

I'm sure this will have been answered elsewhere but I just can't find it!

Anybody any suggestions on the following?

I have connected a Sony TV, DVD recorder and AV receiver but am unable to get any TV sound through the receiver unless the DVD is the selected input.

Details are:

TV == KDL-40T2800

Home Cinema == HT-SF100

DVD == RDR-HXD890

DVD connected to received via HDMI

Receiver connected to TV via HDMI and Audio (right and left channel), both on the AV5 connectors

Received/home ciname works fine with DVD

TV outputs sound find through own speakers

TV Sound not received through receiver when DVD off and receiver shows source as "TV"

TV sound received through receiver when DVD on and receiver shows source as "DVD"

TV setup shows both the receiver system and DVD being recognised

Any suggestions would be well received

Thanks

Hi,

this is an early model tv and i cannot find specs for it, but if you look on the rear panel for a fibre optic connector and find this you can connect with this using a fibre optic interconnect to your Amp,

this will give you the sound from your tv, however please note that most broadcast will be in two channel Audio with a few being in dolby digital, (your Amp will show this).

in all honesty theres not much to be gained from this apart from slightly better sound.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there are no optical out ports. As you say this an older model so probably pre-dates that little option.

It does, though, have a couple of pairs of R/L for an audio link. One on AV3 and another on AV5. I have these currently connected through AV5, which is also showing the recorder. Don't think AV3 will output but the connectivity diagrams, etc seem to suggest AV5 should.

Thanks for the response anyway.

In case it is of help to anybody else problem solved.

Placed the audio cables in a different output port from those linked to the HDMI port used, i.e. instead of putting HDMI into AV5 and audio in associated AV5 have switched the audio to the spare AV3 outputs. Now the receiver recognises both and all seems to be tickety boo :slight_smile:
