No picuture @ 1080p s-380 on Panasonic th42px80

Hi I am enjoying my new player but have a 2 Questions

1  When I select 1080p on my player the screen on the tv goes black.  The tv is a Panasonic th42px80 capable of 720p or 1080i, I am fairly sure the tv should be able to display a 1080i image with the player set at 1080p.

2 I get white lines and sparkles on the screen if I don't turn off HDMI Deep Colour Output.

I am happy with the player set at 1080i and the deep colour output turned off but just wanted to put my mind at rest that this was normal and that I have no hardware issues.  I have completed the network update and have a wired connection.

Thanks for any advice

Andrew

if, as you stated, the pana is only HD ready (not Full HD) it won't be able to downscale the signal to 1080i. Let it works at the maximum supported definition (1080i)

As said already your tv needs to be 1080p to display the image at this resolution 1080i is a lower standard of HD

OK I had thought that the tv would have converted the image to 1080i.  Thanks for the replies.

Hmm that link states

but you don't have to have a screen with this resolution to display a 1080i/1080p signal - lower resolution screens downscale the signal to fit.

So I'm still confused why I get no picture at 1080p.  Surely the tv should downscale?

your looking at this all wrong, your tv is HD ready which means it only supports 1080i not Full HD 1080p, therefore it will not recognise a 1080p signal and cannot downscale to 1080i, now if anything your blu ray player will play on your tv in 720p or 1080i (dont ask me how but my old pioneer displayed at 1125i) but never bothered to look into why, the picture was great and thats all that mattered, i know nothing of the panasonic model but know the Sony will upscale to the best resloution possible.
