iPhone won't register as a media remote

Hi All,

I've just purchased a Sony Blu-ray Player BDP-S380.

I'm having trouble connecting the Sony Media Remote app on the iPhone to the Blu-ray player.

Both iPhone and Blu-ray player are on the same network. iPhone is connected wirelessly and the Blu-ray player is wired.

iPhone is running iOS 4.3.3 and Blu-ray player is running M06.R.0415

When I go to register the iphone as a remote, it says device is not found.

Blu-ray player is certainly connected to the network as I can receive ondemand video services.

Many thanks all.

Really appreciate your help, as will my wife who is about to give birth and will find being able to use her iPhone to control the player whilst she's feeding the baby 🙂

Hi

Assuming you have the latest firmware, I'd try doing a full reset of the device ( instuctions in the FAQ sticky on the main page) as it may have a glitch somewhere that needs sorting - might also be worth updating your iphone software and checking for an update for the Sony App as well?

Thanks

Hi,

this is not a trick question but did you turn the blu ray player on first before you try to register the i phone?

I tried resetting to factory default. I made sure the app was up to date. I also checked that iOS was up to date (which it wasn't, so I updated). But still no luck I'm afraid.

Is there a harder reset than reset factory default settings?

Many thanks for your reply.

Hi,

Yes. I'm in the network setttings of the Xbar with the "Register a Media Remote device" in focus. That is when I try to "Add Registration" from the app on the iphone.

Many thanks for your response.

Try doing the initialise personal information reset as well as well, just in case. Failing that I'd see if you can get a buddy with an iphone or android phone to see if they are able to connect. If they aren't then maybe pop it into your local service centre and get them to take a look ( you are still under warranty so shouldn't be any problem there..)

Thanks

Hi,

the add registration should have gone without a hitch, i was not bothered with mine but tried it anyway with no problem,

i can think of nothing else at this point other than try the whole process again.

other than my player is connected wirelessly, not sure thats relevant!.
