Ethernet over HDMI

Can anyone tell me whether the BDP S470 is HEC enabled? It claims to have a 19 pin HDMI 1.4a connection but this doesn't mean Sony have given us full 1.4a functionality!

Thanks

Hi

At the moment we don't have any devices that are HEC enabled and as far as I'm aware, this isn't a feature on the new 2011 devices either as its an optional element of HDMI 1.4.

Out of interest, have you seen any other manufacturers offering this feature?

Thanks

Thanks Catmambo.

I'm not aware of anyone offering the devices at the moment but plenty of suppliers, including Sony, are selling the high speed HDMI cables with ethernet connection. This implies, certainly to a layman, that there is no engineering reason for the function not to be included.

The number of home entertainment devices offering internet services is increasing and different manufacturers offer different services (with some overlap admittedly). Rather than add more cables and boxes or dongles to the back of the set-up- with associated swmbo issues- HEC seemed a better option going forward- if it was available.

Absolutely agree with your sentiment. Have already fed back to my colleagues in Tokyo as indeed it would be an extremely useful feature to have moving forwards where possible.

Thanks again.
