BDV-E780 + XBOX 360

I have just bought the KDL-46hx803 together with the BDV-E780 (yet to be released). I was wondering how I would set up my xbox 360 together with the surround sound system.

If I connected the home cinema system to the tv via hdmi, and then plugged my xbox 360 to my tv via hdmi, would the sound come out of the surround sound speakers or my tv's speakers?

Or do I need to connect my xbox to the tv, and also connect it to the home cinema system separately?

Also, what would I do with my virgin media hd box in order to recieve sound through the home cinema system. Connect it just to the tv? Or to the tv AND home cinema system?

I'd guess the TV has to support it also, but as I said, just use an SPDIF cable and it will do exactly the same thing..

Thanks

Hi

Not sure how many HDMI input sockets the E780 has but you could presumably get an HDMI switch like this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0020426AG/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-to...

Ideally you should use HDMI where possible, for best quality and simplicity..

Depending on the TV, if it supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) then it will playback via your speakers - if it doesn't just use an SPDIF cable to connect TV to the E780 and it will do the same thing.

Hope this helps

I've just checked the specs for the E780 home cinema. It does support ARC. But there is nothing on the website to say that the tv supports ARC. Does this matter at all? Or does the fact that the home cinema supports it mean that the sound will play through the speakers regardless?

Thanks

Hi,

I have a Xbox 360 and the BDV-E780. At first time i set up my system with the 360 plugged in one of the 2 HDMI inputs on the e780 but this setup was constraining as it involves to always use the e780 when i have to use my 360.
So I set up the system with an easier one : 360 plugged in to the TV, e780 plugged in the ARC HDMI of my TV (i think it's the first one on Sony TV) and the e780 set up on TV mode (use the function button to change the setting).

Hope it will help.
