I emailed 220-electronics but still no response or joy.

I am not sure what to do really. Will Sony in USA will take it back if I will I will send it back. I am surprised also that Sony Technicians or professionals not responding to these queries or not providing any solution..........

Or will sony be able to replace here in U.K as I believe Sony is global company and they should come forward with some kind of solution.......

Hi ansaris,

I guess Somebody from Sony will watch your post and provide you with the right advise.

my propose about download the UK firmware (above) is still pending for advise, if this is possible then it will save you a lot of time and money

ansaris76,

have you tried to get an answer from Sony using the support tab at the top of the page?, you may get a more direct answer there, this forum is more of a general Q & A forum for th whole community to take part in,

i have had high end DVD players unlocked in the past and never a problem, however buying players from other regions (in your case the USA) poses a new problem and one i fear you will end up not resolving.

if however you have just bought the machine you may be able to send it back, but that may prove a tad expensive to do.

try the Sony Support tab, it make take a while to get an answer though

Just to be absolutely clear, Sony would not recommend making any form of unapproved modifications, hardware or otherwise to the devices in the event that there is a risk of putting yourself in danger from electrocution by opening the machine or possibly corrupting the firmware on the device rendering it inoperable.

Mindful that you can pickup a second hand Blu-ray player now for upwards of  £20-£30 on ebay - the cost of any modification is likely to be greater than that so a simpler solution might just be to get a UK device for any discs that aren't region free. I have a pile of Blu-rays on my desk at the moment and looking through them, around 75% are actually region free.

Hope this helps

to be equally clear, i was not trying to encourage anyone to seek modification for region free playback only to offer alternatives which has been readily available for some time.

also as clearly pointed out Blu Rays are available nowadays that many are region free which is a bonus and that negates the need to waste money these days on modifications which were a few years ago "all the rage" for those seeking movies earlier from the USA.

This today is no longer nessessary as films are almost arriving on the shelves at the same time here and across the pond.

lastly this still does not help the poor person unfortunate enough to be conned or otherwise into buying a region A (1) player from the states!

regards.

I don't know in such a case , if Ansaris download the firmware from Sony UK site (which is already for region B)  and try to uploaded it to BD using the CD method. Does the BD will accept this update file or it will be rejected ???? . i want know about this trail too

@Ansaris , pls don't do this update until you get the right advice from Sony Specialist

I'm pretty sure that devices reject firmware from other territories..

Thanks

To unlock the BD to make it region free you have two choices

1- unlock the firmware for your BD which will void your warranty and your device may get damage

Still no joy I got blue-ray player but can't use it. Thanks to Sony for their great product and advice. Even support professionals they are useless.

Through wireless it's upgraded the usa version as it logged there.

I am not sure how can I upgrade manually to U.K. firmware.

Hi Ansaris76 - I think between us we have clarified that this is not possible I'm afraid and a few alternative suggestions have been made.

Thanks
