I have the SRS-NWGU50 docking station and I intend to purchase an iPod Touch. Would anyone be able to inform me as to whether iPod touches are compatible with the SRS-NWGU50?

Hi F_McNeill.
Looking at the manual here: -

It looks like the SRS-NWGU50 only supports the Sony "Walkman" through the WM-PORT
Docking Port.
You can play tracks from an iPod Touch using a stereo mini-jack cable but many of the functions like the Remote Control will not work fully and you will have to use the iPod itself to select tracks etc. Without docking, it will not recharge the iPod either.
There seems to be a different range with iPod docks: -
