Amp only playing on one channel

I recently dig out an old STR-DB940 amp to use for a one off event.

It has been stored in a dry, clean location for a number of years and while it seems to generally working as expected, sound on the right channel is much lower than the left.

I have tried all the input/output combinations,

swapped cables and swapped speakers to eliminate as many possibilities as I can. The amp supports two sets of speakers (A&B) but all perform in the same way.

Any suggestions?

Maybe have a look at the manual instructions, for the multichannel surround setup in page 19, to make sure you have the right connections: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4229/42291275M.pdf

I have been thro the manual, reset the amp, swapped speakers (left to right), tried multiple inputs (CD, DVD etc), reversed the cables at input, etc etc.

If I move the balance right across to one side, I can hear both speakers but one is still louder than the other.

I can only assume a component has failed, a solder joint has come loose, or there a some oxidisation on the volume control

Hey @ritchie

Well, in this case you will need to contact Sony so they can advise with a service, as long as the steps didn't work

Or try to locate the nearest service centre to you from here: https://cutt.ly/Sevnffk6
