How do I get Sony to authorise my PRS-600 toallow DRM protected Books from Kobo?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi Kobo has a Help section for Sony eReader users;
http://help.kobobooks.com/ just add Sony to the search box
There are two options for transferring Kobo books to a Sony eReader. The first works with newer models (like the PRS-650 and PRS-350). The other may also work for you if you use a Windows system.
Use this procedure if you have a newer Sony eReader. You will need to:
(You only need to do this once.)
Try this method if the previous procedure does not work for you.
NOTE: This procedure only works on Windows computers.
1. Ensure that you have installed the Sony Library software that comes with the Sony eReader.
2. Ensure that you have the Kobo Desktop Application installed.
3. Start the Kobo Desktop Application and sign-in to your Kobo account.
4. Once signed in, connect your Sony eReader to your computer.
5. Once connected, the Kobo Desktop Application will display an eReader icon on the bottom left corner of the screen and will show a Sync button.
6. To transfer your library to the Sony eReader, click Sync – the application will transfer ePub versions of books in your library to the Sony eReader.
Hi,
It sounds like you need to create an Adobe ID which is part of the authorisation process for DRM protected books.
You can check if your Reader is authorised by going to the home menu and selecting 'Settings' and then 'About'.
If you read through the informartion on the 'About' page you should find under the section about Adobe whether your device is authorised or not.
If it is not authorised, then can I suggest trying the following link:
http://support.sony-europe.com/contacts/email/email.aspx?site=odw_en_GB
In the search box at the top type 'getting started'.
In the list of results you should get a couple of PDF files at the top with getting started guides for various Reader models. If you have a look in the one for PRS350/PRS650 there is a generic section for purchasing eBooks (that should work the same for your PRS-600). It covers the the on-line stores that are part of the Reader Library software, but the basic process is the same for any website that has Adobe DRM protected EPUB books.
Hope this might help you.

Thanks Guys,
I used the alternative method and it is working fine now.
Bear in mind that not every Kobo file works with Sony eReaders. I was having difficulties opening a copy of The Goldfinch on my PRS-350 (bought from the Kobo bookstore via the Sony Reader app), and received this reply from Kobo:
'We are sorry that you are experiencing this issue with your purchase.Unfortunately EPUB 3 title "The Goldfinch" by By Donna Tartt can only be downloaded over Kobo servers to Kobo platforms and are not available to third party devices, specifically those that require a download to the computer or sideloading.
We truly apologise for the confusion and inconvenience. To discern the format of a book, look at the "Available on these devices/Read on this" section of the listing. Books that are available for less than seven (7) devices are generally not compatible with third party devices and can only be downloaded over Kobo servers to Kobo platforms.'
So you need to check how many devices the file is compatible with before you purchase it.
