Hi - I've just joined this forum. I have a DSC H300 Sony Cyber Shot which was a present at xmas. Please excuse my ignorance as I've never had a camera before with manual settings - it's always been a point and click; more recently just using my 'phone. I have had a quick look at the various responses on this site but haven't learned enough yet to understand all the answers! My current query is this - there is no sunset setting on the camera - it's my favourite thing to photograph so thought I would start off by trying that subject. However, the auto doesn't pick up the red/pink colours in the sky - I've played around a bit and found the best automatic option was the evening setting SCN. Just wondering what the best settings are for this subject. Got a lot of learning to do!
Hi there,
Welcome to the Sony Community.
I'm looking into this for you and will update the thread when I have an answer for you.
Best wishes,
Sean
Hi Zelda2020,
I'd say try the various scenes listed here: https://helpguide.sony.net/gbmig/44801901/v1/eng/contents/03/03/05/05.html?search=scene to see which one will suit your preference more.

Thanks for that information. I have printed off that guide - but no mention of sunsets/sunrises. My phone recognises a sunset and takes a good photo - I'm very surprised that my new camera doesn't have such a scene setting as it is a very common scene that people take photos of. I know I can use the manual settings on the camera but don't understand enough of those settings yet to use them. I will have to learn.
Hi @Zelda2020,
honestly, you should get used to the manual functions with a camera like that.
So set the top dial to M and play around with aperture and exposure until you're satisfied with what you're seeing on the display or in the viewfinder. That's IMHO the best way to take pictures of sunrises and/or sunsets. Yes, you might need some time to get used to this kind of using a camera but hey, finally you'll be rewarded by better results.
Cheers
