Sony Bravia 8 Mk 2 - No confirmation of calibration process

I bought the Bravia 8 Mk 2 just before Christmas having previously owned a Loewe Bild 7. That TV had a visual indication the screen clean process was initiated by the LED on the TV turning blue. It reverted to white on completion.

The Bravia doesn’t have this nor does it log the action anywhere in its OS. I wrote to Sony asking for some indication it has completed. They’re not interested and feel the silent process is sufficient. But if you turn off your TV just before going to bed how are you meant to check when it doesn’t start until at least four hours has elapsed?

It’s one aspect of an otherwise excellent TV I find disappointing.

After i turned off an option that was consuming lots of power the energy used option in the ECO menu revealed a power spike around 4 hours after the TV was put into standby.

That reassures me a calibration cycle is being performed. Why didn’t Sony customer support suggest doing this? 🙄

None of my own oled TVs of the main brands give you a message if the panel refresh is interrupted. The Panasonic one give you number of the cycle completed in the status .

you will get a message if the tv was not able to complete any cycle in a certain time frame. Enjoy your tv and don’t worry

It’s not about any notification on an interruption. It’s the complete lack of any information that a calibration has taken place. I seem to have struck lucky that my first OLED - a Loewe showed it was happening.

I’ll take your advice and not worry. 😁

Hi @RayProud

What exactly do you mean by "calibration cycle"? Do you mean Panel Refresh that should only be performed a maximum of once a year.

What is Panel calibration? | Sony UK

I didn't even know that this was happening! As far as I can see it is completely automatic and doesn't require any input from the user.

Calibration cycle is how Sony refer to the process started four hours after the TV has been switched into standby providing it has been on for at least four hours.

I wanted reassurance this was happening as my previous OLED had a visible indication it was happening. Sony don’t provide anything for this important process which I find bizarre. It’s only via the ECO option you can see it’s happened.

No, that other process is not one the user should use unless circumstances demand it.
