Have a XR77A80J and use a PS5 to watch UHD Blu Rays. When VRR is enabled it locks the HDMI input to game mode. It’s quite inconvenient to have to disable VRR before watching any film
Surely the TV/PS5 could detect that a DVD is playing and reenable all picture modes? Or even a quick VRR toggle one button press shortcut would do as a workaround.
@carlito000, this is because of the ALLM feature, the TV automatically switches to game mode until the ALLM is disabled. So you need to disable ALLM from the PS settings to sort this out (settings - screen & video - video output - ALLM ). Also I came across this article: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors/articles/00277404
Thanks for the reply. Sadly ALLM is already “off” in PS5 settings and the issue persists. It’s almost as if the TV is hardcoded to be locked to game mode on HDMI4 when VRR is enabled on that input.
@carlito000, even with ALLM set to off, you need to change the Picture Mode on the TV to something other than the game mode. Also make sure to enhance the HDMI formats ( settings - channels & inputs - external inputs - HDMI signal format)
