NOW TV and BT TV on Sony Bravia KD-55XF8796

I can't seem to get both BT TV and NOW TV on Sony Bravia KD-55XF8796 Android TV. Is there a way that both players can be assessed as apps direct without having to use the BT YouView Box?

Hi @bwallace1   Extremely unlikely, but never say never. If the Apps are not in the Google Play Store then they are not available. It would require some serious negotiations between Sony and BT and Sky (Now TV).

BT TV is delivered only over YouView boxes, and only to those who have BT as their ISP, and subscribe additionally to the BT TV service.

But if your ISP is BT, or you switch to BT as your ISP, they will pretty much give you a YouView box, as long as you stay signed up for at least a year.

However, be aware that NowTV on these boxes is currently Movies only; this is set to change, but we don’t have a date, or even much of a timescale yet.

If you want NowTV, I recommend you buy a NowTV Stick; £19.99 with your choice of a pack with two month’s Entertainment thrown in, or a pack with one month’s Movies thrown in.

Runs over WiFi, any ISP, plugs in an HDMI port, can be powered with a (supplied) wallwart, or even just from a USB port on your TV, like I do.

Or another £10 (but no Passes) will get you a Roku Stick, with NowTV and Amazon Video as well, and a whole raft of additional services, some free, some by subscription.

Or you can cast NowTV from any compatible device with it on via the built in Chromecast in these TVs; though check first that your casting device is compatible during a 7-day free trial of NowTV. 

Then buy a Stick, as it’s a lot less hassle
