I've recently changed my receiver from Yamaha to Pioneer SC-LX502. I've connected my Sony TV same way previously - HDMI4/ARC port and Receiver HDMI OUT.
ARC connection worked for 1 day and then disconnected. Now it works ONLY if I connect anything to TV's HDMI1/MHL port, even just an HDMI Wire, then ARC connection gets back.
Why TV is searching for ARC connection on MHL port?
Hi SkyJamal,
Welcome to the community.
I'll see if I can find an answer for you on this and get back to you soon.
Thanks,
Pascale
Hi SkyJamal,
That's weird. Have you tried to replace the HDMI cable to see if this would make any difference? Also, make sure the TV is running the latest software version released.
I would also suggest that you reset the TV to the defaults and check again.

Thank you for replying - I though I'd never receive any feedback on that.
First of all that's my second account - I was automatically logged out and my password didn't work. I've sent 5 password restore link and every time got "Oops this page doesn't exist message"
So about TV - Receiver issue
1. TV is connected to internet and is always up to date
2. Cable worked fine with previous Yamaha reciever and never had an issue
3. Cable worked fine with new Pioneer receiver until it stopped
4. I've done both TV and Receiver "Factory Reset" and it didn't work out
5. Now every day I need to plug-unplug bland HDMI cable to my TV's HDMI1/MHL port so that it finds Receiver on ARC port
6. I'd hope to find software issue instead of changing cable - I bought an expensive one and I need to take off TV from a wall mount and run wire though tube in the wall
7. (IMPORTANT QUESTION) - Can I just plug in my Receiver to HDMI1/MHL port and it would work just as fine as HDMI4/ARC?
Hi SkyJamal,
I don't recommend that you connect the receiver to HDMI1 port. This would disable the ARC feature.
Is it possible that you test if the issue would still remain with any other device? E.g..try to connect any other HDMI device to HDMI ARC.

So if I connect receiver to HDMI1 / MHL it won't support ARC, right? (as I hoped it would solve my problem)
Will connecting TV box, provided by internet provider to ARC port would be fine? Or in example Macbook air?
Hi SkyJamal2,
As I understand, the Audio return channel (ARC) is designed for Audio system connections only. So, in this case, you can try connecting any other Audio system to the same ARC port, and check if the issue still remains.

Thank you guys for your suggestions! Luckily I've fixed this issue: the actual problem was that I had plugged in HDMI cable to my receiver to watch films from Macbook air, this HDMI cable had HAMA HDMI to thunderbolt adapter on in.
Every time I plug in this adapter to HDMI cable TV disconnected from Receiver. So I've just unplugged this adapter and that's it. No idea why this happens but as long as it fixed my issue - works fine for me.
Thanks
