I've had my Sony KD48A9BU smart tv since November 2020 and want to watch the new ITVX app. The Google store within the tv says the app doesn't exist although both my LG smart tv's work fine with it. I don't know how this forum works, do staff from Sony answer queries? I've seen the same issue posted but with no resolution. Are Sony working on it or am I stuck with an expensive tv that won't update with new apps? I don't know who to turn to for help. Do I have to go back to the retailer that I bought the TV from?
Hi @David_H2020
This is a community of customers so you will not get any “official” reply from Sony here. They do occasionally make announcements.
As far as I know ITVX has not been launched on Sony TVs yet. It is certainly is not available on my 2021/2022 TVs.
We can only guess that the agreement between Sony & ITV has not been concluded yet. Nobody knows as Sony do not publish their negotiations with 3rd party providers.
ITVX will almost certainly be part of the base operating system and will not made available in the TV Play Store. I have just checked for App updates and there are none available on my XR-55A95K.
Edit: The latest list of supported devices (19/12/2022) now includes Android TV so perhaps close. However like most sensible companies, the chances of an update this close to Christmas and the New Year maybe a risk to far. But we never know.
If you are definitely wanting it for Xmas, then streaming sticks including ITVX are available.
Its worth contacting Sony and asking when they plan to release.

I see that ITVX won't be rolled out until Jan 2023. Frustrating - and I wonder how reliable that date is. But at least we have some idea now...
I should have made clear that this is for Sony TVs - tho' as this is a Sony forum I guess people will have assumed I meant that....

Hi @rightgradely Have you got an official Sony or ITV reference for that date? No interest in published rumours.
I had a look at a twitter link on ITVX - and Sony stated today in response to someone else that "we'd like to confirm that ITVX launch has been postponed until January 2023. Please make sure that your TV is up to date, you can check for an available update by pressing Help - Status & Diagnostics - Check for a software update."
So -watch this space it seems
You are welcome - I am surprised that Sony doesn't put out something more visible and reassuring - perhaps to state which sets will and won't get ITVX. But we live in an age where communicating with customers seems to be very much an "optional" activity alas...
We have the same problem on our Sony Bravia android smart TV after a lot of emails with Sony and ITV hub without resolving the issue. In their latest email Sony say that ITVx won't be launched until Jan 23 no exact date, we are going to wait until 1st Feb 23 to see what Happens
