Bravia K-55XR80 audio output reverts to TV speakers

Hi All - as above, I use an optical soundbar and I cannot permanently change the audio output setting to to audio system to disable the internal speakers, it switches straight back. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Thanks.

Could it be as simple as this.

Go to Settings> Display & Sound> Audio Output> Speakers if it is set to TV Speakers change it to Audio System.

As your TV is a different model to mine the Settings path may be slightly different, have a look.

Thanks, but I change that setting to Audio system, and it immediately flips back to TV Speakers. That's the bit I can't understand.

I have just disconnected my HDMI cable from TV to my AV processor and connected via optical cable.

I have set Audio Output> Speakers to Audio System.

After switching the TV off and then on again the setting has not switched back to TV speakers.

Have you tried a Restart of the TV, long press on the power button and select Restart.

Or a full power cycle, switch off unplug, wait about two minutes, plug in switch on.

Try changing the setting again to see if the Restart or. the power cycle has cleared something

that may help with the TV remembering your setting.

There was a new firmware update released in early August, has your TV been updated to that.

You can download it here,

This may also help in refreshing files and could clear your issue.

I guess your soundbar only has an optical input, otherwise I would recommend connecting via HDMI if it were possible.

You are a prince amongst men! Firmware was fine, restart didn't change anything but I pulled all my hdmi devices and the setting stayed on. Added them back one at a time and it looks like an HDMI switch was sending an odd signal/eARC and confusing the TV so that's staying unplugged for now. Posting this in case anyone else has the issue down the line. Thanks again!
