Yesterday my KD-55XD8505 (Android 7 with latest available updates) ceased to display anything from external inputs: aerial antenna, two HDMI devices and USB (SSD as external storage for recordings).
For those external inputs the screen did not display anything, not even the usual top bar where it displays shortly the selected TV channel or input. The program guide did not show any content for the channels and also the "recorded title list" was empty. Although "TV selections" and "Genre Guide" showed some thumbnail recommendations, trying to view those resulted the same blank screen.
Otherwise screen worked fine: all apps ("internal inputs") ie. Netflix worked fine.
- Took electricity off and kept TV shutdown many time and over the night, so many reboot
- Tried to unplug and replug all the wires without success.
- Tried to retune channels, but it was not possible since after selecting "channel setup" from settings the screen went blank.
- In setting "initial setup" was grayed out with message "feature not available during recording".
This last one got me thinking if the TV is stuck in some kind of "recording loop" which somehow stole all the external inputs (I could kind of understand antenna and SSD, but not HDMI devices.
All instructions I found (not too many) resulted always to the factory reset, which I did and now it seems to work fine. However, it will take some time to set it up like it used to be... annoying.
Anyway, posting this to here as documentation, to see if somebody else has experienced the same and if this could help somebody.
