I don't have 5:1; I have got a good stereo system. Is there any way of using the AF9 as a centre speaker so as to enhance the quality of dialogue?
Hi John,
Welcome to the community.
There's a guide here on using your TV as a centre speaker. Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Ed
Thanks for the guide, which is to using the TV as centre speaker in a 5:1 or 7:1 system. I don't have, or particularly want, surround sound. What I was enquiring about is the possibility of adding the TV as a centre speaker to a high-quality stereo system. Have you any advice on that?
Old thread, but maybe i can help.
The TV acts as a center speaker using speaker-in connectors.
This means that you need to analyze how you get the sound to those connectors.
Scenario A:
you are using an app on the TV. Sound digital signals is generated in the TV.
You use HDMI (ise hdmi3 with Audio Return Channel, ARC) or optical out (toslink) to something that can translate digital that signal to audio (DAC that can manage 5.1 or better and amplifier)
Normally that is done in a home cinema receiver.
In that receiver you set which speakers that will be used and the receiver internally amplifies the center signal and you connect the receiver using speaker cables to the speaker-in on the TV.
It is quite uncommon to have 2 fronts and a center, but it works.
You cannot use just a stereo amp for this as you need 3 channels.
Scenario B:
You have the sources of the audio/movie connected to the reveiver using HDMI-in.
Then the receiver connects to the TV using HDMI.
However, sound should come to the TV using speaker-in.
That is how I have understood things.
I have issues getting this to work but I think my sounc card in the TV is broken and will ask for a repair.
no sorry, you can't with only a stereo receiver
