2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

New issue today, now my Onkyo will not sync anymore with the Sony TV, I have to restarted, it worked for 30 minutes, and again the sound went off through the Onkyo..... so here is the list of the issues I found so far since 2nd Feb firmware update:

- TV turn on by itself in the middle of the night (even with Daydream off and remote start off)

- Bluetooth keep disconnecting, need to restart otherwise dont let you turn on again

- Sound off through the Audio system.

- Remote not responding

- TV freeze, coudnt restart, has to be unplugged.

With all this, I had it, I am calling Amazon now.

@Anonymous

My 55x8509c has switched itself on twice since the latest update.  I just checked the 'Daydream' settings and 'When to sleep' was already set to never.

I also had yet another spontaneous reboot when trying to select a BT Ultra HD box as the input - I think that's the fifth so far.  Do you know if this is on a list to be looked at?

Thanks.

Try a factory reset it keeps the new firmware but resets the tv it seems to have stopped mine starting up on it's own

Well, Just got Amazon to agree to accept the return of my Sony 55S8005, with full refund. It has been almost 3 months and been really patience with Sony, but the sound problem today was enough for me.  So Sony, you just lost a customer, never again Sony TV.

Now will look for others options, looking into Panasonic 55CR852, or Samsung 55JU7000.

Good luck everyone with your Sony Android TV, hope future update fix all the issues for you....

SONY KD-55X8505C. After latest firmware upgrade TV randomly turns ON. All timers are off, and even ECO is set to off. Experienced it 2 times at different hours of the day (no other activity going on at the time).

I've got KDL65W859CBU and I have a very washed out picture, I've tried resetting picture and drilling down into menus to disable all the enhancements but I can't figure it out.

Live TV and videos played back from android look washed out and any blocking in the video is very noticeable.

John Lewis have just agreed to a full refund or exchange on my 49x8307c.

Bought in August.

First tv changed due to a screen fault November.

second just returned from engineers, having been seen previously by JL's other engineers for an on site inspection where it played up nicely, who changed the PCB and WIFI module, was more responsive but

still too many issues for me.

Many thanks for all the technical assistance and best luck for the future

It seems a really bad source... try working with noise reduction filters and Reality Creation for the blocks... for the washed picture you should calibrate the set.

But not with a source like this.

I had the shop that sold mine to me ready to come and pick it up last week and refund me - but since the latest firmware update I have not had one issue.

Maybe its a keeper

I just hope that they pull their fingers out and actually implement picture in picture and usb recording this year.

Incase it hasn't already been said here. I think the delay in HDD recording is because they're putting that update alongside an update to Marshmallow, let's all hope that an OS overhaul doesn't reset everything to the issues it had on release!!
