I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Having just received a phone call from my wife asking how to switch the TV off (it had stopped responding), I decided to call Sony and see what they had to say.
Well they were very apologetic and promised me that they were working on fixing the problems.
I asked them to give me one reason to keep this TV and not return it for a refund. "We build quality items and have the loyalist customers in the market".... just wow.
Anyhow, he gave me some advice about performing a soft reset and promised to call back next week to see if I'm still getting the freezes.
At this point I asked about the USB-HDD recording feature that was promised by Christmas and his response was it's due "Summer 2016"
VERY unhappy with my TV now.
My list of problems is as follows:
Random disconnection from internet.
Randomly becomes super laggy and unresponsive, only fixed by power cycling
Doubled-up HDMI input labels (HDMI2 and BD for example)
Black screen with sound only
No USB recording
Gave up on YouView a couple of weeks back due to the app being very broken/buggy
AND... I've yet to hook up my sat dish and additional HDMI devices.
~The HDMI labels can be edited...
Home>Setup>External Inputs>Manage Inputs
The satellite tuner is half-broken! Unless you really need it for some reason; stick with the external box...
"We build quality items and have the loyalist customers in the market"
In the words of Billy Connolly...
Oh! dae ye Bl**dy-well think so!
Personally I feel Sony have really abused my loyalty and are insulting my intelligence! Not least with the infantile emails they keep sending me telling me I've got a 'badge' for taking part in this discussion! *****
Yeah I edited the HDMI2 label, but it still showed two inputs for the same device on the home screen...
is there any solution to the recording problem cited here?
The "solution" according to my conversation with Sony Support is "be patient"... 😞
Hey guys, I don’t want to open a new thread, just a quick one if someone knows.
Is the KD43X8305C HDR capable and is this necessary in order to stream Netflix UHD..? I am considering to change my Netflix plan to UHD.
Thank you…
I can't say for certain if it's HDR compatible, but I recently upgraded my Netflix subscription and can watch their UHD 4k content OK on my KD-49X8307C
