I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
It'll be a brave brave person who updates the firmware on the 24th December.......Here's how it will likely go:
Brave Person: Update Firmware
TV: Firmware Update Failed, unable to boot
Sony Customer Services: Shut for the holiday season. Ring back in 2016.
All this followed by a quiet Christmas.......
Once I get this thing into a 'useable' state it will be remaining firmly DISCONNECTED from the internet and only updated when I hear that the update Is worthwhile...
But Sony... Take note! You are now 'attracting attention' from people from all walks of life... From the media and possibly from the legal profession.
I question what implication there is in censoring user feedback... Morally? From a PR perspective? Legally; do the 'consumer protections from unfair trading' laws not render this a 'misleading practice'?
- I leave that one for the first hacked-off lawyer who gets lumbered with one of these things to answer!
@adyjay33 - your review post is still in this thread on page 298.
See:

As long as the rules of this forum is not broken, nothing is censored/deleted. If it is, you will be informed why.
Cheers

.....!
And OH! - did I mention there is no output from ARC? I just used an optical connection but REALLY???? And then there are the tales earlier in this thread of them censoring (deserved) negative reviews! I'd expect this sort of rubbish from a no-name supermarket telly! Not one of the best known names in the business!
And I'll remember all this the next time I'm speccing-up our replacement broadcast kit...
I can't answer for the rest of your woes, but I got my ARC working fine,
Try again, first switching off both the set and whatever you are feeding the HDMI into, at the mains, plugging the HDMI cable in both ends, and then powering up again,
i did have to do this, as the set certainly does not like its HDMI cables being hot-plugged.
I'm aware of the hot-swap issue... And the set has been power-cycled among other things... The whole rig was powered own for wiring anyway.
I'm trained broadcast engineer remember; well used-to dealing with much more complex kit than this... I'm prepared to speculate this is a new bug; possibly introduced with the latest firmware release. - This set was updated on Tuesday afternoon - 2/12/15

Good post, just two points...
the default for the update is Automatic, most people have it this way so it will update itself.
the proposed release is 'before' 24th.
I can't see them releasing the update that close to the holiday. As I see it it will be much later based on recent experiences. My older Panasonic is however on standby.
" @adyjay33 - your review post is still in this thread on page 298."
And yet that very post says...
"My review they askedme to do for the TV got thrown out too for telling the truth"
So, I'm afraid a question mark remains over the issue of Sony censoring reviews...
